Water mill nature reserve

The Molino del Agua Natural Area, in La Mata, is a perfect example of the extensive dune system that once predominated on the coast of the province of Alicante
In the scarce 17 hectares of this protected area declared in 2006, we find all the sand strips existing in the dune ecosystems represented, as well as species of flora and fauna common in them. From grasses that begin to appear in the embryonic and mobile dunes closest to the sea to Aleppo and stone pines on the already stabilized interior dunes. Among the fauna, the presence of the endemic beetle Paratriodonta alicantina stands out, a true jewel of our territory, or the Kentish Plover, a small protected wading bird that breeds on our coasts and whose presence is threatened by the presence of bathers in areas delimited for its nesting.
In the area there is a replica of the Water Mill, one of the few fresh water wells opened near the coast, with written references from the year 1797, being used by workers in the salt industry, its waters being salinized today.
